Over 135 years of tradition and innovation

1886

Carlo Maina began working as a manufacturer of oenological machines and devices to meet local needs, and as a repair shop for bicycles and sewing machines.

1917

On the 28th of February, Carlo’s four children (Fedele, Modesto, Benvenuto and Erminia) set up the Company as general partnership under the name FRATELLI MAINA DI CARLO and acquired a new head office.

1919

The cast-iron foundry and the cast-iron pulley production entered into operation.

1925

The Company expanded production, moving into industrial plant motorization and material handling systems.

1950

The production of gear couplings was launched.

1965

The first gear spindles for rolling mills were designed and manufactured.

1981

The management of the Company passed on to the third generation. A complete reorganization of the production department took place, with the purchase of modern CNC machinery and equipment, while the sales and technical departments were developed and strengthened.

1982

The foundry closed down, the study of the universal shaft product was launched and the sales activity began expanding abroad.

1984

The production of universal shafts and gear reducers was launched.

1993

The production of large-size and high-load universal shafts began.

1994

ISO 9001 certification by Det Norske Veritas was attained. The fourth generation of the family joined the Board of Directors.

2004

The company acquired a strategic position on the international markets, completing its transformation from the dominant company within the domestic market to a leader of the global market.

2009

The Company invested in the research and development of products designed for new fields of application.

2010

New products and items to complement existing products were added to the product range: universal gear joints for high-speed trains, slipper spindles and safety devices.

2011

The Company attained the patent for the Hydro-Safe device.

2016

The Company significantly strengthened its position on the Asian market by supplying critical products to key steel producers, replacing historical competitors. Since then, Maina has continued to record stable growth in its market share in Asia.

2020

The Company implemented “shot-peening” in the production of U-shafts. As a result, Maina cardan shafts have become even more reliable and long-lasting.

2021

Production of an updated and improved version of the Hydro-safe® coupling. This means that it is now more accurate than ever.
